With three little ones arriving just months apart, but what means the most to me is watching my dad prepare in his own quiet, steady way, has been watching him rebuild a cradle that was kind of damaged - not just fixing wood and tightening screws, but putting his heart into every detail. As I have watched him rebuild it I can see how much it means to him ... like he was building a safe place for our future baby before they're even here, it is also the same way he's always created safe places for me. My infertility hasn't just hurt me - it has hurt my parents too, they haven't said it outright to me, but I can see it in their eyes when they comfort me by wanting to take my pain away from me. They have carried the pain quietly, just the way parents often do to be strong for their daughters, we are their world. I want to say that they've managed to make this little one feel just as treasured and just as loved as all your other sweet grand kids. You and Mom have been there through the hardest parts of my infertility, I know that it breaks their hearts to see me hurting, I honestly believe you both just want to protect me from a kind of pain no parent wants their child to face, but you both still stayed strong for me by listening, hoping and holding onto faith when mine felt thin. Maybe that's why watching you rebuild the cradle has meant so much to me, you repaired every piece with your own hands, tightening loose pieces, smoothing out the rough edges, and repairing something that needed a little extra love, it wasn't just a cradle that you fixed it was hope. Your way of preparing a place for the baby who will finally call me "Mom" and the grandchild you've both been waiting to welcome.
